What I’m Up To Follow me around the world as I travel to learn who I am and what life’s about. I’ll focus on the aspects of life that I’m most passionate about, including culture, food, and drink. I’m currently in Brisbane, Australia. I spent early November in Patzcuaro for Day of the Dead, followed by Cuba on the 4th November to step back in time and find out what it’s like to be less dependent on technology to get by in everyday life. I explored the history and culture of this incredibly unique country, and was in Havana when Fidel Castro passed away – seeing how this affected the nation’s people was an experience I will never forget. After Cuba, I headed back to Mexico to learn about mezcal in famous Oaxaca. I was also introduced to pulque (a very different kind of agave-based spirit) in Puebla, and learned to enjoy the copious amounts of chili and cinnamon found in most food in this vibrant, addictive country. I have been enormously lucky to meet various local families who have gone well out of their way to show me around their cities, which has without a doubt been the highlight of my time in beautiful, culturally rich Mexico. After incredible Mexico, I flew to Costa Rica, where I visited La Fortuna, and hiked famous Cerro Chato volcano. I then caught two taxis and a boat to get to beautiful Monteverde, home of some of the most incredible cloud forests in the world! After that, I headed to Manuel Antonio, on the Pacific coast. I hiked Manuel Antonio National Park, renowned for its stunning beaches and boisterous wildlife. Then I spent eight incredible days volunteering at the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center, in Alajuela. Following that, I moved on to Cahuita, and then Puerto Viejo, both on the Caribbean coast. Crossing the border was next on my list, as I headed down to stunning Bocas del Toro, in Panama. After that I headed back to San Jose, and then I was on my way home, via a nine-hour stopover in Los Angeles, USA; and a two-hour stopover in Auckland, New Zealand. This trip has had immense lows, and even more immense highs. Five months after leaving home, I’m returning a changed person, with a new lease on life and a completely altered perception of my future possibilities. The journey doesn’t stop here! I’m already planning out my next two overseas trips, stay tuned!
